During the Breedweer Orientation Day, Jeffrey La Rooij had a special experience. Until a few years ago, he was the one searching through family, friends, and acquaintances for organisations that could offer work shadowing days, internships, and graduation projects. Now, as a commercial employee at Breedweer, he was asked whether he would like to mentor Daan from PCC Het Lyceum in Alkmaar during such a day.
The goal of the day was clear: to give Daan a better understanding of the labour market and working life. Daan quickly knew where he wanted to spend his day.
“My mother said you have a fun and interesting job,” he told Jeffrey.
Naturally, Jeffrey could only agree.
Orientation Day at Breedweer
The day started early. At 7:45 a.m., Jeffrey picked up his guest from home, and together they drove to the office in Heerhugowaard. There, the Breedweer Orientation Day began with an introduction and an explanation of the programme.
The morning focused on getting to know the organisation. Who is Breedweer? What exactly do we do? And, most importantly, what motivates us to do our work in this way?
After this introduction, Daan was given a tour of the office and warehouse. He gained a first impression of the organisation and then met with several colleagues. This gave him the opportunity to learn what a Director, Regional Manager, Project Manager, HR Advisor, and a Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator do on a daily basis.
A Look Behind the Scenes
After the tour, Jeffrey and Daan took a closer look at the role of a Commercial Employee. Daan had prepared an interview and asked questions about Jeffrey’s career, how he joined Breedweer, and what makes his job so interesting.
After a morning full of new impressions, it was time for lunch and a moment to relax. Together with Site Manager Hicham Mrabet, they decided to visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
And it was far from an ordinary visit. Through the staff entrance, they were given a behind the scenes tour of the museum. Daan not only saw the famous artworks, but also learned how cleaning and maintenance are tailored to the specific needs of the museum.
A unique experience.
A Successful Orientation Day
At the end of the day, Jeffrey asked Daan how he had experienced his Breedweer Orientation Day.
The answer came immediately:
“I learned a lot about how Breedweer works and what the organisation stands for. And I was also able to see it in practice at the Van Gogh Museum. It was a great day.”
For Jeffrey, mentoring Daan was just as enjoyable. It gave him the opportunity to show how diverse a career at Breedweer can be.
Not only for Daan, but also for Jeffrey, it was a successful day.
